The IOP (Input-Output-Oscillator) module contains the oscillator and performs all the inputs functions. The oscillator can be either Rubidium (Stratum 2) or Quartz (Stratum 3E).

The US5Ge accommodates 2 IOP Modules. These multi-function modulesprovide the system with ST-2, or ST-3E oscillators for holdover, input signal processing for accuracy and stability, performance monitoring utilizing user configurable thresholds with reference switching based on threshold crossing. Moreover, the IOP’s serve as redundant backups for the COM Module.
The front panel LED’s are divided into three groups. The input status LED’s are vertically aligned to the left of the module panel. There is a status and selected LED for each of the 10 external inputs and one for the Independent Integrated GPS receiver, located on the right side of the front panel above the input connectors. If the input is terminated  and provisioned in software the first of the 2 LED’s will indicate green. If the specific input is the selected reference the second of the 2 LED’s will indicate green. Only  one input at a time will show as selected. The selected input will be shown on both IOP modules simultaneously.
The middle grouping of LED’s on the IOP represent overall IOP module function. The Status LED will indicate red if there is a hardware or software  impairment of the module. This would normally trigger a clock switch to the non-affected IOP module.The Active LED indicates the IOP module currently supplying sync to the outputs. The  CC LED indicates green if the system has Composite Clock references terminated to Inputs 1 & 2. That implies that the system software is operating in a sub-tending mode.
The Oscillator LED’s are grouped on the right of the panel and will  be discussed in detail in section 7.3.3. The LED’s indicate transitory states of Warm-up, Acquire, Free Run, Holdover and Lock. There are also LED’s to indicate Oscillator fault status.
If a faulted IOP module is removed, the replacement module will automatically receive any necessary software or data base corrections from the COM Module.
