US5Gx Antenna Converter

The GNSS (GPS, Glonass) functionality of the US5G Family (US5G, US5Ge, US5Gm) is provided by a GPS receiver on the main shelf or by an antenna converter placed near the antenna.

The US5G (a/e/m) can optionally be supplied with independent integrated GPS reference receivers to provide a Primary Reference Clock (PRC) capability, in conformity with the ITU-T G811 recommendations. The US5G is capable of accommodating two integrated  GPS receivers enabling a redundant GPS architecture with separate and redundant antenna sources. All the external reference inputs can still be used within the selection  hierarchy or they may be monitored for performance characteristics.

It can optionally be supplied with a receiver capable of tracking GPS and GLONASS constellation satellites. This solution comes in replacement of the standard GPS option. This 16 channel receiver manages GLONASS and GPS satellites constellation in a integrated way, where all visible satellites belonging to both  constellation are used simultaneously to improve clock performance. This solution provides Primary Reference Clock (PRC), with high availability and performance, conforming to ITU-T G811
recommendations.

The US5G (a/e/m) can be equipped with one or two receivers. If there is only one receiver, this receiver provides the synchronization signals to both IOP clocks. If there are two receivers, each IOP clock receives its synchronization signal from its own  receiver.

The selection criterion concerning the number of receivers is thus based on a question of availability.

In addition, the distance between the antenna and the main shelf must be taken into account for the selection of the receiver type. If this distance isshort (less than 50 m), the signal at 1575,42 MHz shall be directly routed to the main shelf via the coaxial cable. The GPS module shall be of type Z8-05080G06-00 if there are two GPS’s and Z8-05080G33-20 in a configuration with one GPS.

However, if the distance between the antenna and the main shelf is included between 0 and 300 m, we shall use favourably one or two antenna converters of type Z8-04191G14-00 on the antenna side. On the main shelf side, we shall use either two GPS converters of type Z8-05080G05-00 or one GPS converter of type Z8-05080G33-30.
